How to remove GWX.EXE and GWXUX.EXE and Windows 10 update notifications ONCE and for ALL ETERNITY????
I’ve uninstalled KB3035583.
I’ve tried deleting the C:\Windows\System32\GWX folder, but I don’t have the permissions to do it.
I’ve tried changing permissions to Full Control to Everyone as an administrator, but I don’t have the permissions to do it either.
I’ve tried enabling the Built-In administrator account with “net user administrator /active:yes” and logged in as the Built-In administrator, and could still not change the GWX folder permissions and delete it.
I’ve tried installing this software called Unlocker to force it to delete the GWX folder after forcing-kill GWX.exe and GWXUX.exe in the task manager, and Unlocker could still not delete it. I’ve asked it to move it and it said it could only move it at reboot. When it did, it created a new GWX folder in the destination, but the old GWX folder was still in the System32 folder.
WHAT NOW??? How do I get rid of this damn thing once and for all, so that it does not bug me ever again??
Oh, and yes, I’ve googled all those issues a thousand times. All those attempts were following Google results.
PS: I run Windows 7 home premium
Instead of having to install a bunch of random programs all you have to do is on the C:\Windows\System32\GWX folder properties go to security and click advanced then go to the owner tab and click edit. Then it should automatically have Administrators and your username in there, click your username and near the bottom check the box that says replace owner on subcontainers then click OK. Then go to the permissions tab on the advanced security settings and click change permissions then click Add and add your username and check the Full control box and click OK. Then check the Replace all child object permissions and click OK then OK on the advanced security settings window and close the folder properties window. Now you can delete it.
Though they seem to be pushing the update multiple times as I’ve had to hide two different versions of the same KB article. So it will probably pop up back sometime.
